Midwest Institute for Nanoelectronics Discovery (MIND) and Local Research Efforts

Q: How will the Nanoelectronics Research Initiative (NRI) address future challenges?

A:  The Semiconductor Research Corporation’s Nanoelectronics Research Initiative is a consortium of semiconductor companies seeking to accelerate research in nanoelectronics for the benefit of the technology industry.

NRI is doing this by conducting groundbreaking research at 34 different universities, to develop novel computing devices that ultimately can replace the CMOS transistor technology commonly used in electronic devices, which is estimated to reach its technological limits by the year 2025. To help accelerate the “race” to achieve this goal, NRI has established four national centers of nanoelectronic research – including the Midwest Institute for Nanoelectronics Discovery (MIND) at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.

NRI is working with all participants in the consortium to continually refine the research agenda and extract maximum value from the resulting research, both at NRI centers as well as in the joint NRI-National Science Foundation research projects.
